3 Steps To The Essence You Desire
Finding the essence allows a broad and specific focus simultaneously. No matter where our perspective tends to gravitate, if we move into a place to consider the essence of what we want, automatically we’re focused and heading in the right direction.
Ghandi wrote, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” His famous quote tells us loud and clear, it starts with us. Change is an inside job. Creation, choice and change have so much in common. It’s not a far leap to see Ghandi’s words as encouragement for us to be the essence we want to create.
A few defining words for essence begin with soul, spirit, core, heart, principle, and substance. Instead of elaborating on the word essence I invite you to enjoy the exercise below which will allow you to have your own experience and know exactly the “essence” this process conveys.
We see the world and reality through the mirror of our own perception. Altering and shifting the angle of the mirror allows us to see things differently which ultimately changes the reality we observe. The feedback loop in our brain notices a new experience and logs the data for access and reference later. Once this occurs we have created a new pattern of thinking which directly affects our reality from that point forward. The more we experience a particular phenomenon the more the pattern gets grooved into our behavior. The willingness, ability and choice to shift perspective is the first step to change.
Initial Exercise:
Look within and ask yourself: what do I really want?
Sit quietly until you hear and know the response is true.
Write it on a piece of paper.
Three steps to connect to the essence of what you want:
Once you choose the essence, value and aspect you are ready to consciously choose to be the essence you want to create. The desires of our heart manifest easiest when aligned with life giving, life receiving energy. How does the essence support life and the greatest good of all?
Here is how:
When we choose to meditate and “be” awareness, we become open to cohere with the infinite, universal or spiritual plane where anything is possible. In this space our body, mind and soul are unified with the primordial emptiness of everything. Through this process we either rest in this rich reservoir of absolute reality and tap into the relative reality of love of life and what is or we notice what inhibits our full coherence. Either way it’s a beneficial benevolent presence and invitation to accept and embody what is.
Consider being still and quiet to become one with the essence. Let go of doing for a time and focus on being. Throughout the day or established time bring your consciousness to rest with this essence. Things will shift. Notice what you notice. You may want to keep a journal of any and all changes.
Many times we may notice resistance either internally, externally or both. It’s a good time to get quiet, be still, re-group, and re-calibrate what is most important. How does the essence affect others? The Trigger Exercise brings clarity of any values in life being noticed and expressed negatively. Reconnecting with what is most important, accepting and embodying the positive aspects of our values, often decreases triggers.
Are there any other areas of your life it would be helpful to apply this process? Is there anything in the world you would like to see changed? How can you be the essence of the change you want to see in the world?

Three steps to connect to the essence of what you want:
- First, consider what it is you want and what this really mean to you. It may take a physical, tangible form or be a specific outcome. Relax the specifics, ask yourself, what is the essence of my desire and preference? What represents the core or heart of what I want?
- Second, link what you want as a specific value (see list of Values located at the following link: Values Exercise)
- Last, connect to the spiritual aspect of whatever you want to create. The following words are gateways and guides to the present moment and may generate grace. Which one most closely relates to your preference?
Once you choose the essence, value and aspect you are ready to consciously choose to be the essence you want to create. The desires of our heart manifest easiest when aligned with life giving, life receiving energy. How does the essence support life and the greatest good of all?
Here is how:
- Focus your attention and intention on the essence.
- Open your heart to the essence.
- What emotion does it elicit?
- Visualize the vibration of the essence inside you.
- Where in your body do you notice the vibration?
- Take a deep breath, hold and notice the essence within.
