"The community stagnates without the impulse of the individual. The impulse dies away without the sympathy of the community. ~ William James
What is community? When I think of community, I see it as a place of belonging, a being a part of where we give and receive. Community is a center where we come together as equals sharing our gifts and love with each other. It's people being open to each other and accepting.
Community is where we build relationships of meaning. There lie memories, that may or may not be endearing. Sometimes, in that center is conflict to which we can learn resolution.
Community is a gathering of hearts and souls with various backgrounds that make-up the individuals. Community creates unity and bonds us beyond our little worlds of self. It is an extension of ourselves that expands outwardly making connections, making a difference in whatever shape or form that does in fact expand the whole.
Community to me helps us grow and change...given the "right" kind of support we are the better for it. It is a place where our commonality is the same: a desire to be a part of the bigger picture. It is a group of individuals honoring each others uniqueness as we meld into one.
